Love your job?

Maybe not, if you have the same reaction as Dilbert!

BillG will move on...

Big news today as BillG announced that he will switch to a part-time role within Microsoft in a couple of years. CNET has an interesting story about his work and his timeline @ Microsoft. I especially like the pearls of wisdom from BillG, and his interview with a "famous and reputed" magazine - it's definitely an interesting piece - worth a read! :-)

Don't drive fast... or else...

For the traffic ticket I got driving near Shasta, I had to go through an online course - arguably one of the "toughest" courses I have been through; here's the scoop:
  • six sections
  • three topics each section
  • average of 10 pages per topic
  • roughly 10-15 questions after each section with a minimum 80% pass percentage to proceed to the next section
  • validation quiz at the end of all sections
  • final exam from the county
It took me around 8 man-hours for the entire process! Hopefully, speed limits will be different when we inhabit elsewhere in the universe.

iTunes - doesn't tune right!

I was under the impression that iTunes is probably the best music library software out there. But it turned out to be quite frustrating. My biggest complaint was its inability to map the songs to the file system - since I am (and many, many other users I know are) used to this. Further iTunes 6 apparently does not make the iPod appear as an extra flash drive, so can use iPod only in conjunction with iTunes. Here are more reasons why iTunes is... well... over-hyped, to say the least! WMP is heavy, iTunes sucks, Winamp lacks features - hmm... need to find a good music library software.

Picasa still rules in UI slickness among all desktop apps! :)

Update: More iTunes bashing: it sucks so hard I am swearing as I type this.
